This course aims to expose students to a wide variety of issues related to translation/translating and equip them with a critical attitude toward commonsensical “theories” of translation/translating, the origin of which lies in the idea of equivalence/faithfulness. Students will be led to see through empirical case studies what a translated text is like if equivalence/faithfulness is a mission impossible. All these efforts will cumulate in students’ final projects the instructor guides them through as partial fulfillment of the course.
